Living Waters

In the middle of the nave of the Chapel of the Lamb there stands a bubbling font that constantly reminds us of two things. Christ, who is our Living Water and the sacrament of grace in which we find our vocation. The waters cascading over the various levels of the font remind us of the waters of baptism, which brought us into the Kingdom of God and are the wellspring from which our vows and vocations pour.Just as a single light beam penetrates a prism and reveals its various colors, we now have a better appreciation of the vastness and implications of baptism. If one looks carefully one will note that the spectrum of colors displayed by the prism lay comfortably beside each other. Each color enhances the other without calling attention to itself. Each has its own place, intensity, and strength without asserting dominance. The waters of baptism and this light of nature instruct us on how we should understand our vows and ministries.

It is the understanding of the Companions of St. Luke ~ OSB that the vows we take are not new; they have always been there, under the umbrella of baptism. We are only now discovering their beginnings and the Ultimate One who is their Origin. Just as we use a tool called a prism to break what appears to be a beam of white light into many colors, so it is with baptismal vows. Our calling does not have us stand alone or apart but beside our brothers and sisters of other vocations as equals in God's kingdom.
